Services for Older People
Feel Good Clubs & Active Age Groups
Feel Good Clubs & Active Age Groups are social gatherings for people aged 55 and over, who want to remain active and involved into their retirement. Active Age Groups are run by their members, for their members. Every group is different and has its own identity, but generally they are a place to meet new friends, gain new skills through classes and activities, do some exercise, gain information about relevant entitlements and services and have a cuppa and a chat! Many groups also go on holidays and various outings throughout the year. Leitrim Development Company support and provide information to 20 Groups in Leitrim and West Cavan, in the following areas:
Ballinamore, Bornacoola, Blacklion, Carrick-on-Shannon, Cloone/ Aughavas, Drumkeeran, Drumreilly, Dromahair, Drumsna, Drumshanbo, Fenagh, Glenfarne, Glencar, Gortletteragh, Leitrim Village, Manorhamilton, Mohill, Kiltoghert, Kiltyclogher, Kinlough, Rossinver.
All of these Groups form a Network to share information, collaborate on projects/activities and to socialise. There are over 300 Active Age Feel Good Group members across County Leitrim, who enjoy friendship, camaraderie and exercising their body and mind. Leitrim Development Company holds a number of events each year, in conjunction with Leitrim Sports partnership, for Group members. People get the opportunity to take part in a number of workshops on a range of interests, from samba drumming to drama, from cake-decorating to jewellery-making – there is always something for everyone.
Quotes from Active Age Group members:

Leitrim's Older People's Council
As part of Leitrim’s Age Friendly Programme, an Older People’s Council was established, to give a voice to Older People and to assist the Age Friendly Alliance in the implementation of the Age Friendly Strategy. Leitrim Age Friendly Older People’s Council is made up of 16 members, both Older People from across the county and staff and volunteers from agencies that work with Older People, who cannot ‘come to the table’ themselves, such as Older People in nursing homes or with dementia. The Older People's Council is supported by Leitrim Development Company and meets on a quarterly basis in the Leitrim Development Company office in Drumshanbo.
